Ok, so rather than do a day by day description of the two week photography tour, I thought, the main thing people want is photos, and maybe a few anecdotes. So here is a collection of my favourite / best photos, along with a number that have something interesting to talk about. For my Facebook friends, many of these photos are in my Madagascar album on Facebook. For non-facebookers, I have included all the photos I posted in my facebook album, plus some extras, so you haven't missed out on anything, you just had to wait a few more months.
Lemurs
Starting with one of my favourite shots
Maybe humans aren't the only ones that like to get high, this guy certainly looks like he has just had a puff on something special
Red bellied brown lemur - there were two of these guys, and while watching them I saw one jump onto a branch which promptly removed itself from the tree it was a part of and crashed to the ground, carrying its passenger lemur down with it. The lemur immediately jumped back up into a tree and looked around looking almost embarrassed with a look that said "I really hope nobody saw that."
Gratuitous baby lemur shot
I had borrowed a wide angle lens at this point in time and was getting so close to this guy that at one point he reached out to try and grab the front of the camera. Was fun being able to get so close.
Possibly the cutest critter alive - the tiny Mouse Lemur
A nocturnal Sportive Lemur
This guy was so much fun, he really liked me, and every time a walked up to the tree he was in, he would climb right down to the branch right above my head.
These two guys also wanted to be my friend, and if I crouched down and moved slowly I could reach out to them one at a time and the would grab hold of my finger. They didn't like any of the others trying this though. Possibly because everyone else was carrying cameras big enough that they could be mistaken for rocket launchers, or moderate sized telescopes.
Dancing Sifakas
They don't run, they dance ...
... they hop ...
... they look slightly possessed ...
... and occasionally for variety, they fly through the air with the greatest of ease
Lemur trying to climb into my bedroom
Lemur with twins
Chameleons
Cute little baby Chameleon about an inch long
Spotted Night Jar (looks like a bunch of leaves with eyes)
Just in case you can't see there is a bird there
Tenrecs
Leaf-tailed Gecko
The Guardian of the centre, aka. Attack Goose (it actually never did anything, but looked the part quite nicely)
A Ground Boa, not in its preferred habitat (at least not after we put it up a tree)
Leaf bugs - that's right, not moss, a group of well camouflaged insects
Spiky Trees (it was known as the spiny forest)
Big Fat Trees (technical term), maybe they need to go on a diet
Funky Photo Tricks
The infinity curve, featuring a Giraffe Necked Weevil
Sunrays and fill flash
And to finish with, one more random cute Lemur pic.
Hope you liked the photos.
If you haven't seen it already there is a separate blog post that discusses my time in Madagascar.
